The Heart is Full puts Jamie Holman’s work alongside Jim Brook’s at The Village Gallery, Leeds. Neither artist accepts that some subjects matter more than others. A family photograph, a village street, the glow of coloured lights, a front room: each gets the care usually saved for grand historical painting.
The title is about what builds up over a life. It isn’t nostalgia. Memories collect in places, objects, pictures and people, and they keep shaping us long after the moment has gone. In paint, print and textile, Holman holds on to the small things: a bracelet, a wrist, two hands held tight. Making the work becomes its own way of remembering.
